PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ ABOUT THE ORANGUTANS IN ASIA..
Even The unthinkable is being done to female orangutans in Indonesia. They are being captured and used in brothels as prostitutes!!! where they are tied down and repeatedly raped on a daily basis !!
Just when you think things couldn't get much worse for the endangered orangutan, it does. 50,000 orangutans have already died in the last 2 decades as a result of deforestation- their natural habitat being replaced by palm oil plantations. They could be extinct by 2015.They need protection- not exploitation brothels as prostitutes !!
Presently in Borneo (Indonesia and Malaysia) and Sumatra the Orangutans population is down to around + - 60,000 !!
This may initially sound like a fairly large number, but when you discover that we are currently losing 50 Orangutans a week and that at the present rate of killing there will be none left by 2026, you then realize why the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) have raised the alarm to an unprecedented level with a new report : "Last Stand of the Orangutan : A State of Emergency"
The reason for this panic and devastation unfortunately lies very close to home.....Palm Oil.
The heart of Borneo, homeland to about 2000 endemic species with about 200 discovered each years is a forest too unique, too precious that if it is once lost, it will not come again.
Very unfortunately the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia have started cutting the trees to give way to the palm tree plantations and the wildlife has to suffer. If we would not do anything than nobody will and our grandsons will not be able to enjoy the joy of Borneo.
The forest of Borneo it very quickly loosing its area just because of the too much dangerous economical demands of the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia. They have started cutting the trees to give way to the palm tree plantations and the wildlife is suffering.
The governments are not paying attention to the environmental concerns which many people have. They have started a very large-scale program to cut down they forest tracts covering two thirds of the island to give way to the Palm Oil plantations and the settlements of homeless citizens from Java and Peninsular Malaysia.
If this is done without any attention to the environment, we will be loosing thousands of species of birds, reptiles, mammals and insects endemic to this wonderful island. This deforestation has started to show its serious effects already. Indonesia and Malaysia have become the hotpots for endangered animals across the globe along with Brazil and Congo.
We all know that these tyrant and money-loving governments want nothing else but money. When everything is finished, they just get rid of all opposition using a simple and half-hear ted apology, which is not enough to bring the extinct species back to earth. The governments will, after everything is finished, build two or three memorials in the memory of these extinct species and will open two ar three new schools to encourage environmental protection so their vote and respect remains maintained. Presently in Borneo (Indonesia and Malaysia) and Sumatra the Orangutan population is down to around 69,000.
This may initially sound like a fairly large number, but when you discover that we are currently losing 50 Orangutans a week and that at the present rate of killing there will be none left by 2026, you then realize why the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) have raised the alarm to an unprecedented level with a new report : "Last Stand of the Orangutan : A State of Emergency".
The reason for this panic and devastation unfortunately lies very close to home.....Palm Oil !!!!!!
In your home right now there are likely to be a number of products that you use & consume everyday which contain Palm Oil from Borneo or Sumatra. To enable us to have these products millions of hectares of natural Rain forest are being destroyed to be replaced with Palm Oil Plantations.
These Rain forests are the homes of the Orangutans, but everyday more and more are being slaughtered with guns, machetes, wooden stakes and even set on fire so that multi-national Palm Oil companies can get richer quicker.
In some cases the babies of these Orangutans manage to escape, but unless rescued their fate is as heartbreaking as their parents. Orangutans share 96.4% of human genes and the helpless babies stay stuck to their mothers side for at least the first 5 years of their lives............ Just like our children.. !!
